Passion for Prawns - Benchmarking Performance Project Number - 2007/716 Start Date - 1st October 2007 End Date - 30th June 2008 Principal Investigator - Ms Helen Jenkins Research Provider - Australian Prawn Farmers Association CRC Research End User - Australian Prawn Farmers Assoc About the Project The "Passion for Prawns" initiative will deliver investments across a range of activities all linked together with the shared goal of improving market value. By increasing the market value of farmed prawns the industry will significantly grow its value from its exisiting operational base. Project Objectives 1. Identification of key business performance indicators to enable measured evaluation of returns on investment in the industries development. 2. Measurement of the Australian Prawn farmers varying performance against those key business performance indicators. 3. Identification of the key drivers of variation in performance across the farms against those key business performance indicators. 4. Establishment of recommended actions to overcome the variability and improve performance against the business performance indicators identified in objective 3. 5. Prawn Industry Blackspot Management: Problem Size and Appropriate Research Project Number - 2008/793 Start Date - 24th August 2009 End Date - 15th January 2010 Principal Investigator - Steven Slattery Research Provider - Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, Queensland CRC Research End User - Australian Council of Prawn Fisheries About the Project There is a need to better define the issues surrounding the effective use of metabisulphite and 4-hexylresorcinol by the Australian Prawn Industry, and to refine the associated research requirements. This relates specifically to the reduction in dip effectiveness with successive dips and the development of on-boat dip concentration meter – a “metameter”. Project Objectives To determine the significance of melanisation (black spot) in prawns to poducers and processors. To assess the need for further research on metabisulphite dipping and on the development of a dip meter. Farmed Prawns in Brisbane and Sydney: A Consumer Study Project Number - 2009/742 Start Date - 1st July 2009 End Date - 30th November 2009 Principal Investigator - Dr Karen Nelson-Field Research Provider - University of South Australia CRC Research End User - Australian Prawn Farmers Association About the Project Little is known about consumer choices and barriers to consumption of Australian farmed Prawns. This project will provide both primary and secondary research data on consumers in Sydney and Brisbane. Project Objectives To provide a report to the Australian Prawn Farmers' Association on consumer preferences when considering purchasing Australian farmed Prawns in Brisbane and Sydney. back to top>
