The Australian Seafood CRC is commissioning a number of critical reviews of technical market access support needs to inform the development of its market security program. This information is to provide a basis for determining where to invest in research and development and how to achieve the best and most effective return on this investment. To this end, this review:
- Identified current key markets for Australian seafood and the current technical requirements for market entry.
- Identified and detailed research and development work being undertaken in key markets in relation to food safety and product integrity that may impact on Australian seafood exporters.
- Identified and detailed work being done, or being proposed, internationally by industry or governments in relation to seafood safety and product integrity.
- Investigated and detailed current Codex and other international activities that may influence the technical requirements of Australia's key markets.
- Identified trends in rejections of Australian shipments and reasons for them.
- Determined what research and development capabilities exist and the opportunities for collaboration within Australia.
- Identified potential opportunities for collaboration internationally.
